Reaching Out

At church for the last two weeks we have started a new Study called "Just Walk Across the Room", I don't know if you are familiar with it but basically it's all about moving outside of your comfort zone to reach people who may not be in church. One of the ways we can do this is by meeting people who may have one of the same interests that you do like, fishing (men), sports, hiking, just whatever you may like to do, more than likely there is someone you come in contact with who you could get to know better.

I have to tell you that it is a really good class/study/whatever you want to call it, but it can really open your eyes to exactly how well we know people, even our families. One of the exercises was to write down who your neighbors are, what they do, where they attend church, that kind of thing. I think I was pretty lucky because most of my neighbors go to my church and I have known them my whole life. But there were a few that I couldn't say that about. One was a lady that lives on my street, who I have talked too many times. But I didn't know where she went to church. Hmmm, not doing to well am I? Then I have another neighbor, I haven't even really talked to him at all. The Mr has, but not really in the "get to know you" kind of way. Just casual hello, what's up kind of stuff.

This week one of the things we were asked to think about was making a list of people we would like to see come to Christ. There were several names on my list, some of them are Christians, but I think they just need some growing time. Some are very far from being Christians. But I care about each of them so I would really like to see them turn to God.

One man in the video took 8 years to make his commitment to Christ. 8 YEARS!!! That seems like such a long time doesn't it. I mean all the man (Bill Hybels) did was be his friend, be there for him, and talk to him about God, when he wanted to talk. But EIGHT years. What commitment and genuine caring. He truly cared about his friend. So much so that he didn't want to spend eternity without him.

Do you have someone in your life like that? Someone who may be a great person, fun to be around, but they just won't make that step? Maybe they have some kind of addiction, or fault that they feel unworthy? I think we probably all know someone who we can put in this category. This week we should challenge ourselves to try to be an example before that person and to pray for them nonstop until they do make that commitment.

How hard can it be to pray for someone? Let's do it, pick someone and pray for them. Maybe when we are around them we will try to listen a little more than talk, ask about their week? Something to show them that we genuinely care about them. Surely, we can do that. After all God has done for us, we can do that for him can't we?

Now that's something to think about!

Fishing and CFS

This is the reason that I can't get the doors made for my cabinet!

And he's been back from this trip for a week, but never fear, we have purchased what we need for the doors and if I have to tie him to a table saw, he's going to finish!!!

Sometimes I think most men have CFS (Can't finish Stuff), they like to start a project, and when they are almost done, they move on to something else. Now of course, if you ask him it would be my fault this isn't finished. He couldn't help he was going fishing, he couldn't help he had to help someone else with a project. But keep this in mind. while he was gone fishing, I, just me, all by myself, dismantled the hutch. Except for the part where I asked my carpenter friend to come and cut something out for me. So now who can't finish stuff?

Meet and Greet!

Meet Jana.

She was the winner of my giveaway. While she was visiting Nonny, she brought her kids over to see our goats. I think they enjoyed it, I know the goats did anyway. Nothing like a little white bread to make a goat happy.

Still working on it!

I am still working on my project, I actually ran into a few snags that I wasn't really expecting, but don't worry, I am taking lots of "during" pictures for you.

Since that isn't quite ready, I thought I would tell you about a conversation I over heard at an appointment for my mom. It went like this.

Lady 1: Did "Lacy"
stay in the hospital last night? (Guessing on the name)

Lady 2: I think they kept her because she didn't have to have an IV.

Lady 1: If you have to have an IV, they don't keep you overnight?

Lady 2: Well, if they need an IV, they go to the emergency room, and they do it there, but they can't stay there overnight.

Lady 1: So they don't put an IV in at the Hospital?

Lady 2: No, they aren't able to do it there, you have to go to the emergency room for that.

Lady 1: What are you suppose to do when they are sick? Can they stay overnight in the ER?

Lady 2: No, because there is no one there at night to take care of them.

Lady 1: I can't believe that if you take your pet to the ER, they can't keep them overnight!

It was then I thought to myself, first of all, Ladies, you must really be in tune to your pets. Mine stay outside, and unless, they aren't getting up and moving around, or bleeding, I can't tell if they are sick.

Second, where is the animal hospital you keep talking about. I have lived here my whole life and I don't know where the hospital is, Vet's offices I know, hospital, not sure.

Also, get a new vet, my vet will keep my animal overnight if it needs it.

*Disclosure: I too love my animals, I am not a hater. I just don't have the money to throw around if they aren't feeling well.

Next Project

Ok, I am going to try to re-do this delightful piece of furniture.

I know, very chic, isn't it? I saw a piece similiar to this one re-done and it looked amazing, so I have decided to give it a shot. I haven't quite decided what color, I think I will surprise you with the color. It will/should look completely different because I am making a lot of changes to it.

Hopefully, when it is done, BG will like it enough to put it in her room.

Remembering

But you should do this:
"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him a drink.
Doing this will be like pouring burning coals on his head."
Romans 12:20

Sounds easier than it is, doesn't it.

"I told you when I was with you that all this would happen. Do you not remember?"
2 Thessalonians 2:5

Hmmm.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that who so ever believeth in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life."
John 3:16

I saved the best for last.

I decided to have the drawing a little early, I know, I know, I did say 5, but like the title says, "It's my blog, and I can pretty much do what I want to."

And the winner is. . . . . . .

Jana- Mom of 2!!!!!

Hooray, so Jana all I need you to do is email me with which bag you like the most and where I can send them.

Finished!!

I am sooooo excited! I finally finished. It's my first furniture re-do. I took this old, pukey green dresser, and transformed it into something that I absolutely love.

While I know it has flaws, quite a few actually, I did it. I used spray paint and modge podge and . . . voila!

How about that color huh? I really liked the furniture but NOT the color. I know, I know, there was a time when this was the in thing, right?

This is my finished project, (I really did just finish, that's why it's still in the basement) My only regret is that you can't really see the material that I put behind the baskets. But don't worry, I am going to show you, because I love it! (The material is where the modge podge came in.) I wish you could see it better, but hey, this is my first time so be gentle.

Give away!

OK, this is it, my 100th post!

I can't believe it, man, time flies when you are having fun! This year for Labor Day, we decided to take ourselves a little mini-vacation, and of course, I stopped at my favorite store.

While we were there I picked up these little beauties, cute huh? You will have your pick of the one you would like and a gift card from Target.

All you have to do to be entered, is leave a comment about what you did for Labor Day!

That's so easy, even a man can do it!

I'll leave it open until Thursday at 5 p.m. (Don't ask me how I came up with that, I just pulled it out of thin air.)

Been Busy!

We still haven't finished putting stuff up in the bedroom, I have an idea that I want to do, but I know she will resist it.

She doesn't like change.

Weird, huh!

Anyway, I am taking my old hutch that was probably built in the 70's, and I am painting it. I want to put it in BG's room. I will take a picture so you will be able to appreciate it, once I redo it. It can definitely use sprucing up.

I can't decide on what color I want to paint it, should it be white, or maybe black? I don't know.

Help me!

Just a little FYI, I am almost to 100 posts and when I do, I will be having a give away. I already know what I want to do, so make sure you check back because you will like it!

I also really, really, really want to paint my kitchen cabinets, but I don't want to start that until I am completely done with BG's room. Because if I start on the kitchen, I know I will leave hers unfinished for an undetermined amount of time.

This weekend would be a great time to do my project, but we are taking a much needed rest this weekend.

After school started, I have been working more, so I don't have as much time for getting stuff done around the house. And not only do I have projects working at the house, I have framing to do. I am swamped with stuff to do!

I know, poor pitiful me!
