Basement Options

For the past 10 years we have been trying to  finish our basement.  Right now we have it looking functional but not really "nice".  Mr. Wonderful keeps telling me that we have to get the floor done before we can do anything else.

Now, I don't know if this is true, or just a ploy so that he doesn't have to get started on anything right now.  I know, it's unheard of that someone would come up with a reason not to do anything around the house isn't it?

So let's just say he's telling the truth, and I have to do something to my floors first.

Right now, they are just plain old concrete floors.  Nothing fancy about it.  I have seen Acid stained concrete floors that I LOVE!   They look amazing to me, and they look pretty easy to maintain.

I also love tile floors, I don't know how much it would cost to stain the concrete that is there so I don't really know how feasible it is.  There is also the option of Epoxy paints.  But if I could I would pick the concrete stain.

What do you think?

Shooting Trap

This past weekend was a busy one.   My oldest had a Hunter Safety event, and my youngest had basketball.

In case you are wondering what a Hunter Safety event is, it is a FFA kind of thing.  They have different teams that gather together and it's like a contest.

They have a Bow team, Orienteering, Trap, and Rifle.

My boy shoots trap or skeet.  I think there were 25 different schools that showed up and they compete and the schools with the top scores move on to State competitions.  I think his school came in 4th out of 25.  I don't know if they will get to go to State or not, I really hope so.

He did good, I was really proud of him.  He was so nervous, but he did a great job.  He shot a 180, that means he only missed 2.  Two hundred is a perfect score.

I didn't take pictures because my battery was dead in my camera.  Things like that always seem to happen to me.

This is pretty close to what it was like.

Looks like fun doesn't it?

Who do you say that I am?

OK, last night was bible study again, and the closer we get to Easter, the more I am loving doing Luke.  We are getting closer and closer to the time of the crucifixion and I love the way Jesus is trying to give his Disciples some warning of what is going to happen to him, but they just don't want to hear it.

When he is with the Disciples and he is praying, and he asks them "Who do the people say I am?", they tell him some say John the Baptist, some say prophets from long ago that have come back,  then he asks them "Who do you say that I am?".   I really like that question!  At some time in our lives we will all have to answer that question.  When they say, you are the Christ.  This is when he begins to tell them all that he will have to endure.  And Peter, just being Peter, took Jesus aside and told him that those things would never happen to him.

I don't know about you but I can definitely identify with Peter.  Let's face it, he is loving having Jesus around and who wouldn't.  I think he probably never wanted it to end.  So when he hears something bad he just doesn't want to believe that it is going to happen.

How many times do we hear about something that isn't pleasant and simply ignore it, or maybe just act like it isn't going to happen.  Unfortunately, bad stuff happens.  That's life, it always has happened and it always will.  I guess we just have to decide how we want to handle it.

Maybe how we answer his question will help us with how we handle bad news.

Ta-Da!!

Well, I finally finished the coffee table.
Remember the before.

And the during.

And finally the after.

I really like how it turned out.   Since I had never used the glaze before, I was a little weary at first.   But I really liked how it softened it and brought out the details in the wood.

I used the same buttery yellow that I used when I did the bathroom. The stain is just Dark Walnut.  It didn't turn out as dark as I really wanted but I love it.

I am linking up with Metamorphosis Monday!

Being healed

Last night was Bible study.  We are still in Luke, and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

Last night we were reading Chapter 8, where Jesus gives life to the little girl and heals the woman in the crowd.

Now I have read these stories and heard about them many times but you know how sometimes something just clicks.  Something I didn't really pay attention to before was the parallels between the two stories.

The young girl who was brought back to life was 12.  The woman in the crowd who was healed was sick for 12 years.

Coincidence?  I don't think so.

One goes boldly into the crowd and asks, no begs, Jesus to come and heal his daughter.  The other tries to hide within the crowd, but knows, that if she only touches Jesus, she will be healed.

They both have so much faith.  They both know that Jesus can healAnd they both fall at his feet.

Do you wonder why Jesus called the woman out?  I mean, surely he knew she was the one who touched his robe, but he wanted her to say it was her.

Why?  She was healed the minute she touched his garment.  Maybe it was to tell her that not only was she healed physically but also emotionally.  Let's face it after 12 years with an illness that no one else seems to be able to  fix, she was desperate, and financially and emotionally spent.  In that day, Jewish women were considered unclean if they had bleeding issues, so technically she wasn't even suppose to be there.  Perhaps he wanted to send out the message that all are welcome.

" Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest."
Matthew 11:28

Both who came to him were healed.

Now that's a good story!

Glazing

I have finished painting my coffee table, and I wanted to put a glaze on it.  I have never used a glaze before and I am a little intimidated by it.  I had it tinted with a brown/coffee color, and the sample is pretty dark.

Of course I know I will paint it on and wipe it off, but I am nervous, what if it looks horrible?

Oh well, I will just bite the bullet and do it!!!

Still Working!

I have worked on my coffee table all weekend, well, in between ball practice, and church, and other stuff.  I can't wait to show you the pictures, I love it and I think you're gonna love it.

Also, I have to tell you I watched Julie and Julia this weekend.
And, I loved it.

Good Read!

On Monday, Nonny had a book in her bag that was her FDIL's and she said I could read it if I wanted to, and I must be behind the times because she said a while ago, a lot of people were reading it and doing a bible study on it.

So I read it, and I absolutely LOVED it!!!!

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome book!!

Coffee TaBLE

This is actually the end table that goes with the coffee table, but I wanted you to see the finish before I started sanding and I didn't take a picture of the coffee, so that is why you see two different tables.

Whew, that was a mouthful wasn't it.

Ta-da!  Here it is after I sanded it, those round legs are hard to sand with my little hand held sander.

I will be working on it more this weekend, hopefully I'll get the painting done.

Can't wait for you to see it!!!

Pink Bathroom

OK, remember how I asked for some advice for my mom's pink bathroom.  Well, you can see from the pictures that I was not stretching it in the least.  I have to say the floor is what is in the worst shape, and it's pretty small so that shouldn't be too hard for us to do.

That's Mr. Wonderful (he's working on the toilet).

I am standing in the tub to take this picture.

I am thinking that we should just paint the top part (the one that is burgundy, now) a lighter color.  That is because it is small and we will probably go with a light colored floor.  I would like to frame out the mirror and either get a  new light fixture or paint the one she has.  I would love to get a new faucet, but not sure if it's in the budget.  I will definitely get new hardware for the vanity.

Any suggestions?

I know what I said, but. . .

OK, I know I said there was nothing on TV, but last night House was on.

Do you watch House?

I like this show because the medical stuff fascinates me, and I also like the good Dr., he has a lot of inner turmoil.  But last night was a really good one.  Last night his patient was a blogger.

How cool is that?

Anyway, I didn't really like the way it portrayed bloggers but it is TV, and he makes a lot more money than I do so he can do whatever he wants right?

But I am curious if anyone else may have seen it and what you thought about it.

Ready for the weekend!

They are finally calling for a nice weekend and I am going to take advantage of it and possibly work on my coffee table.

If I do, then don't worry, I will take lots of pictures for you.  Also, I could use some suggestions for help with a bathroom.  My mom has pink and burgundy tile.  Yes, I said pink, and it's on the wall.  This bathroom needs a new floor, and we want to update it, but our budget is very tight.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  I am going to take a picture of it and post it so you will see just what I am up against.

HELP!!!!

There's nothing on TV

There use to be so many good shows on TV, like Andy Griffith, I love Lucy, (this was my all time favorite).  These were the more wholesome shows that use to come on when I was little and I loved them.

You don't really see any kinds of shows like that anymore, you use to have Seventh Heaven and the Angel show.  (Sorry, I can't think of the name of that one.)

Now everything is reality.  Don't get me wrong I love me some reality, Jersey Shore was a show I DID NOT miss.   I know it's trashy TV, but I was hooked.  I also love me some Survivor, this season is better than the last one I think.  Maybe that's because Colby's back.

Last night, there was a ball game on and unless one of my kids are playing, I don't really care about it so I went to the bedroom to see what I could find on TV.

I ended up watching Lost.  I think that must be one of those shows that you can jump in on any episode and it not matter.  You have a narrator, and stuff on the bottom of the screen explaining everything to you.  Don't get me wrong I like it, I do, I just don't really get it.

I was actually thinking of going back to the beginning of the show and trying to see if that may help.

PS.  Check out the amazing giveaway at My Repurposed Life!  It's a must for all you home improvement people!!

Getting Organized

This weekend I decided to clean out my closet.  I took a few pictures that I don't really want to show you.  It was bad, really bad.

Just imagine a bomb going off in a very small room.  It looked kind of like that.

My shoes were a big part of the mess, but I also had a huge rubbermaid bin full of clothes that I had to take out and go through, I am taking at least half of them to Goodwill.

After I got everything cleaned out I was looking for something to put my summer shoes in and I remembered that I had two drawers left over from a previous project and decided to use those to help my closet.

I also had a bookshelf that was in the basement that I brought up to put in the closet to help with more storage.

Here's the finished product.
