Where does the time go?

Whew, I can't believe how long it's been since I last posted.

I really have had more to talk about but I just haven't taken the time to actually
put it out there.

Just random, but we are starting a new kitchen floor project that I am so, so,
so excited about!

I can't wait to show you that one.  But it is a big project so it's gonna take a while.

Also, I finished reading this.

Loved it!!

So much so that I have begun the process of making changes in my diet that I think will only make me healthier.

I do know that everyone doesn't agree with the author, but what I read made a lot of sense to me so I am going to give it a chance.

And PS, I did the low carb thing and lost weight, but I also am on the verge of high cholesterol so I really want to give this option a try.   (It was while I was doing the diet that someone told me to read this book.)

And not that anyone else cares but when I was first diagnosed with high cholesterol,
I exercised, like crazy, I mean 30-45 minutes a day, did it for 6 months until it was time to get my blood checked again and guess what?  It only changed like 10 points.

10 POINTS!!!!!

Yea!  Well, after that, I decided while exercise is good for you, our diet is more important.
And I did go on cholesterol medicine, and was on it for probably 4 years maybe and last year when I went for my physical my numbers were pretty low so he took me off of it.

So, after saying all that I really want to see what my numbers are like after eating a diet of
mostly vegetables and fruits.  I do allow myself red meat twice a week, although if I could I would like to eat it even less.

I mean think about it, if plants were good enough for Adam and Eve, I think they are good enough for me.

Whew!

Also, I was given two great pieces of furniture to make over.  I love it when my friends get new furniture because they always ask me if I want the old.

And it's old, one piece is over 100 years old.

(If we heard that once we heard it a thousand times.) Ha! Ha!!!

It comes in many forms.

When I came across the Pride poem in Praying God's Word it really made me stop and think.  What I saw as one thing was just pride in disguise.

It's amazing to me how we rationalize things in our head to make ourselves look like the victim when all along it is pride controls our thoughts and that's not what should be controlling us at all.

I have to admit when I first started this book it talked a lot about spiritual strongholds, and I didn't really get it at first.

Now, I get it.

It's all those things that we struggle with giving to the One who is in control anyway.

Like anger, and envy, and shame, and despair, and not being able to forgive.

So once again, I was given the lesson of humility.

It was a humbling experience that I won't forget.

Good Reads!

I have been reading a lot of books lately.

Finished a few, some I am still working on.

I recently finished the book we are doing our Bible study on.

Awesome, awesome, book.  Really asks some tough questions but definitely a book that will make you grow.

Currently I am reading this.

This is a really good read also.  It deals with breaking strongholds through the power of prayer.

I've already said how I really believe prayer can be so powerful, so I won't go into that tangent again.

But it's true.

Along that line I also have this book.

I personally am not real comfortable if someone asks me to say the prayer, and this book has some great prayers for just about any kind of situation.

Questions to think about

Since we have started our Bible study on not a fan, we have really had to look inside ourselves to see where God stands in our lives.

This past week was particularly difficult.

Not really difficult because I didn't get it, but difficult because I'm not sure what my answers mean.

I guess I didn't get it.

Anyway, since I wasn't sure exactly what my answers say about me, I want to throw the questions that I found the most challenging out to you.

Ready?

1.  What disappoints you or frustrates you the most?

2.  What is it that really gets you excited?

OK, I am going to tell you what my answers are because I honestly felt like my answers may not have been what the author was looking for when he asked them.

Now what disappoints me was an easy question.

Injustice.
The whole life isn't fair thing.  Why are some kids starving while others have too much.
But I will say that I am becoming better with this one, because I think a lot of that is on us.  We should open our eyes to the injustices and do something ourselves.
So I am working on that one.

For me it was the next question that made me seem selfish for lack of a better description.  What gets me excited?
I don't know if this is wrong but I get excited when I know I am getting together with friends or family.  I love having people over, and just getting together.  Our family use to have a girls game night once a month and I absolutely loved it.
We have a lot of fun in my family!

Anyway, when I thought about it I wondered what does that say about me?

Am I putting my family before God?

I don't think I am, but am I?

While we discussed the questions, we were told that these are not to make us feel guilty, but to help us grow and I know that in my head, but I just wasn't sure what that said about me.

I guess if I am going to be honest with myself, and why not because God knows everything anyway, I would have to ask myself am I putting my relationships before God.

What I'm learning

I finished the book that I told you about.

What a great, great, great book!!!

Just one of the things I learned from this amazing book is that I am the one who needs to change.

Shocking, I know.

But it's time to stop looking for fault in everyone else when all I can control is me so that's where my focus should be.

So this has become my favorite new prayer.

Lord, change me.

When I am feeling sorry for myself because life isn't fair.

Change me.

When the kids don't listen and my Wonderful husband gets on my nerves.

Change me.

When I get hurt, or angry, or my feelings get hurt.

Change me.

Favorite books

When my kids were little I loved reading books to them.

We would sit in my glider rocker and read and read and read.  We sometimes read till I got to the point that I had to say, OK, this is the last time.

No more after this.

Some of my favorite books to read to them were, The Giving tree.

I love, love, love that book.

Before my kids were born I would read this book to my nephew, Brandon.

He absolutely loved it!

I actually think I still have it I loved it so much.

I think this one was my sons favorite.

We would read it over and over.

Baby Girl use to like Chicka Chicka Boom boom.

I really like to read, I always have, I guess I was hoping to instill a love of reading for them too.

Grace

As a gift I was given this book.

Let me just say it was awesome!  And honestly it was exactly what I needed to hear.

If you like to read or just want something that will make you feel truly blessed.

Read it!

This book will explain God's grace in an amazingly simple way that even I could understand.  We all like receiving it but we don't always give it out as freely as we should.  Of course I am speaking of myself.

Favorite quote from the book.

It's not your grace.
It's not my grace.
It's Gods' grace.
And it's for everybody.

Words to live by.

New Read!

We've started reading a new book in our Sunday School class.

This one is really, really good, and it's not really a christian book although it is used by a lot of churches.   It is all about how to deal with conflict.

After reading only a few chapters I have to say this is a book everyone needs to read.

We all deal with conflict, whether it's at our work place or at home.  We all have it.  It's basically just a fact of life.

You might want to check it out.

It certainly couldn't hurt.

Good Read!

On Monday, Nonny had a book in her bag that was her FDIL's and she said I could read it if I wanted to, and I must be behind the times because she said a while ago, a lot of people were reading it and doing a bible study on it.

So I read it, and I absolutely LOVED it!!!!

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome book!!
