Lent

Tomorrow begins the first day of Lent.

I have to admit that I have never been one of those people that gives anything up for Lent.  Not really, I think last year I was doing the 40 bags for 40 days purge.  But that isn't really a sacrifice.  That's more of a spring cleaning.  Unless you are giving away things that you truly, truly love.  Then it's a sacrifice.

But the more I think about it the more I feel like I really need to be doing something, anything, to mark Lent this year.

A friend pointed me to this post on Lent.

Great, great, great post.

So, after reading that I thought to myself, what can I do to bring myself closer to God this Easter season.  So here's what I decided.

I am going to pray 3 times a day.   (Three specific times.)

I will read my bible everyday.  No exceptions!

Each day as I pray, there will be one person that I focus that days' prayers on.

Might not seem like much, but it's all about relationship.

What will you do?

Facts about Lent

Lent comes from the Anglo-Saxon word meaning Springtime.

Lent last 40 days, like when Moses was on the mountain and when Jesus was in the wilderness.

The color for lent is Purple, representing sorrow and repentance.

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and goes through Easter.

Ashes were applied to Christians foreheads to represent humility and repentance.
Ex. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Have you seen this?

It's the 40 bags in 40 days challenge.

What an awesome idea.

I was just talking with Nonny about Lent and this definitely sounds like something I am capable of doing.

Not only am I capable but I have been wanting to do something cleansing for a while so I am definitely in!
