Here it is, my latest project in the before stage.
I had already taken the drawers out, as you can see, and I am debating on the color to choose. Part of me really wants to do this in red. I know, red? But I haven't decided for sure, any suggestions?
This was my first time using Miss Mustard Seed's milk paint, and while it took me a few times mixing it up to get a feel for it, I really like it. For a first I decided to go with this freebie from my friend.
Sorry the picture has a glare from the window, but I think you pretty much get the idea. First of all, it's 100 years old, and it's starting to show its age, her laminate was beginning to peel, but I just couldn't help thinking how pretty she would look all dressed up. So after peeling the veneer off with my steam mop, might sound weird but all the bloggers say steam is the way to go so I just used what I had. Honestly, that probably took me about a week of working on it every night after work, I finished. We also had to rebuild one of the drawers because it fell off the truck while we were moving it, but we finally got her ready for paint. So, I went with Miss Mustard seeds grain sack.
I painted her all up and stained the top. I have to say, this is my favorite re-do ever!!!! I mean ever!
Well, I finally finished the coffee table. Remember the before.
And the during.
And finally the after.
I really like how it turned out. Since I had never used the glaze before, I was a little weary at first. But I really liked how it softened it and brought out the details in the wood.
I used the same buttery yellow that I used when I did the bathroom. The stain is just Dark Walnut. It didn't turn out as dark as I really wanted but I love it.
I have finished painting my coffee table, and I wanted to put a glaze on it. I have never used a glaze before and I am a little intimidated by it. I had it tinted with a brown/coffee color, and the sample is pretty dark.
Of course I know I will paint it on and wipe it off, but I am nervous, what if it looks horrible? Oh well, I will just bite the bullet and do it!!!
It has felt like it took FOREVER to finish this monster of a re-do, but I am finally finished.
Here are just a few before pictures to remind you of it's beauty. The doors were a real turn off for me, they just screamed 70's!!!
This was just a picture during, after I took everything out and ripped the doors off. (Which I did by myself people, Mr. Wonderful decided he would rather be fishing.)
After a lot of sanding, fighting with the Mr. about how long it was taking him to get the doors done, then when he finally finished, I painted, then let it dry, then painted again, and letting it dry some more. I finally got it finished, and put together.
There are a few things that I am going to tweak, like the middle door, on the 70's model, that door didn't even open, but when I had my husband make these doors I wanted it to open, and it does, but I didn't really like the way he did the handles. (I told him they should all be going the same way, but he said I was too late.) So I think I am just going to take the middle handle off, fill in the holes and paint over it.
Also, the shelves are glass, that's why they are a little hard to see. But overall, I really like it. My mother in law was over last night, and she even liked it. (That's where it came from, so I have to say I was a little nervous about it.)
Next, I just have to organize it. And no, I won't be putting the dolls back in it, they are in the attic, in a plastic bin. (My mother in law did ask about the dolls.) Hee, Hee!!!!!
