Another Project completed!

You know how you have been waiting and waiting for something and it feels like it will never get finished, well that's how this whole floor thing feels.

But it is finally over, complete!

So here are some pictures so you can fully appreciate my situation.

This was the kitchen floor, just your basic vinyl flooring, but it had started coming away from the wall, and bubbling up.

So once we decided on our flooring, we started ripping it up!!!

Believe it or not the linoleum wasn't so hard because it was only glued around the edges, however, the glue around the edge wasn't so easy.

And as luck would have it, we ended up having to rip up the sub flooring to level out the floor anyway, so we didn't waste that much energy on the glue situation anyway.

Once we finished ripping up the kitchen we moved on to the living room and hallway.

As you can see this area was carpeted.

Carpet sure does come up a lot easier than linoleum.

It's also a whole lot nastier!!

Yuck!!

Look at those hard workers!

So this is how we lived until we decided which finish we were going with.

My first thought was to do a floor like Gina.

We both wanted something rustic looking, so once we were told about
Wrenn Wood, we couldn't resist.

And we (he) worked, and worked.

Until he was finally finished!

And we love it!

I love the knots, and imperfections that make it look
perfect for us.

Pardon the air hose, just wanted you to see
how big an area we were doing here.

It was totally worth all the blood, sweat, and tears that went into it!

What's your gift?

In Bible study we are reading Corinthians.

We just did the chapter dealing with Spiritual Gifts.  The people in Corinth, seem to have put speaking in tongues very high on the scale of gifts.  In other words if you spoke in tongues you were placed on a pedestal so to speak, while others who may have had a different gift, weren't treated quite as well.

Personally, if I could pick a gift, I would think the gift of healing would be the one to have.

As we were reading the chapter it brought to mind a time when we had a discussion of gifts of the Holy Spirit.  I will never forget how my first thought when they were talking about the awesome things that God can do was fear.

Fear of what would happen if that ever really happened to me.

Then someone said something I will never forget.

Don't be afraid of what God can do for you.

I realized I wasn't the only one with this fear either, and I have learned that the fear we usually have comes from the deceiver.  Let's face it, he doesn't want us to have a relationship God, it is his job to keep us as far away from him as possible.  Because when he keeps us from seeking him, he keeps us focused on ourselves.  It's a lot easier for him to convince us that we can do it on our own when we are apart from God.  Being worldly is not all it's cracked up to be.

After we read that chapter, I decided to take the Spiritual gifts survey to see what kind of gift it says that I have.  Now I have done this before but the one I did this time was more specific in it's questions, and pointed to gifts that I hadn't seen mentioned in the last test I did.  Gifts like healing, prophecy, and even demonic possession.

Definitely, didn't want that one!!

But what I found really interesting is the little things that you may do for others, is truly a Spiritual gift.

The gift of helping.

I know of so many people who have this gift but feel like it isn't enough.  Guess what?

That is a wonderful gift, so many times when we need a little help with whatever project we have going, these are the people that are quick to step up and say they will help.
They are the people who really keep things running smoothly.

So whether your gift is healing, speaking in tongues, prophesy, or helping.  You're just as important to the kingdom.

You are just as important to Jesus.

Weekend Ramblings

Whew!!

What a weekend!

Sweet Baby boy turned 21, the dog hasn't been eating, and Baby girl is mad she
has to work every weekend.

Yea, sounds rough doesn't it.

We (meaning mostly Mr. Wonderful) has been working so hard to get our floors done.
I can't wait to show them to you.

Just a preview.

This is in the kitchen and we did the living room, kitchen and hallway.
But we are minutes away from being done!

We cooked out for the boy's birthday with family and friends, that is always
a good time.

The dog got probed at the Vet's office to make sure he didn't have heart worms, and he doesn't.

That's good news.

And Sunday was filled with church, and family time and more church so all in all
we had a very full, yet productive weekend.

It's 100 years old!!

About a month ago, I was lucky enough to get 2 pieces of furniture to experiment on.

This one was my favorite!

I had already taken out the drawers because they had veneer on them and it was chipping so I have been working on that this week.

As you can see, well you can see part of the drawer anyway, and I have finished the two large drawers.  I still have to give them a sanding to smooth them out but the veneer is
GONE!!!!

Here's how they looked before I started scraping.

Nice flowers, huh?

I did all the research on the best way to remove it and the steam method is what most of the bloggers said worked best.  Of course they used a damp rag and an iron, but me, I like
to be original and I thought why not use my steam mop?

Right?

Same basic principal, steam and heat, then I just scraped it off.

I have to say it worked great.

I know I am painting it, but I haven't decided on a color yet.

But I can't wait to show you when I am done.

Oh, I almost forgot.

When I was picking the piece up from my friend her husband kept telling me how she would always tell him how old it was.  She has had it since college and next year, she has a daughter heading off to college, so she has had it quite some time.

He said anytime he said something about the veneer peeling off she said, "Well it's 100 year's old, my daddy got it for me when I went to college."

So, I hope she approves when I'm finished.

I know her husband will be because the flowers are gone!

Things that make you go hmmmm

It's Friday, so that is just praiseworthy in itself, but I thought I would share some of the
posts that I have read this week that really make you think.

This ONE really hit home after all the food documentaries I've been watching.

But frankly I love everything that she says on her blog.

She's a wise woman.

And just because this has been the headlines in the news this week.

Is anyone else worried about North Korea?
You can get the latest on that at CNN.

On the lighter side, here are just a few of my favorite pins this week.

Don't they look awesome?

Baby girl just started working at a place that makes these,
and I have been craving them.
Thanks to Pinterest, I can make them
myself.

For our church Easter egg hunt I tried this method for making
some eggs for our kids to dye and it worked,
but I did have one that cracked.  It may
have been my fault who knows.  But I will
do it again.

And I was looking at this because I have a project where
this knowledge will definitely come in handy.

More to come.
